'Rembetika' is the music of the Greeks from Asia Minor with themes of the lower working classes of Athens-Piraeus of the 1930's. Considered the "blues of Greece", 'rembetika' became the popular "bouzouki music" of the 30s, 40s, and 50s, and has many parallels to American blues. With memorable melodies and lyrics, the songs are about realism, social injustice and the importance of dignity in the face of sorrow and grief.
